reflection on ICT as a communicative tools

Reflection 3
We also learned about communicative tools.

Communicative tools are applications which enable easy communication between teacher and the students as well as among students beyond the physical barrier either by space, time or both of the classrooms. Some of the examples are e-mail, Gmail, Skype, electronic bulletin boards, online chat, video and web conferencing, electronic white boards/smart boards, social networking sites (blogs/Facebook/twitter/Friendster), etc. Basically, there are two types of communications that are; Synchronous (It is also called real time, in which users must be simultaneously connected, rather like a telephone call). Examples; chat, telephone call, videoconferencing.  And Asynchronous (It doesn’t require people to access to the internet at the same time). Example; e-mail, electronic bulletin boards, vle discussion forum, we chat, etc.

As a teacher, using ICT in the classroom as a communicative tool has many benefits. for example, teacher can post the questions on VLE forum and the students can read and respond to it. Even teacher can give feedback also.

reflection on ICT tools

Reflection on ICT tools.
ICT is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application: radio, television, cellular phones, computer, network hardware and software, etc.

In this modern era, knowing how to use ICT tools have become a necessity in our daily life. So it is very essential for each and every one of us to know how to use ICT tools. I had only the basic ideas about computers.  But after joining in Paro College of Education I got the opportunity to strengthen my knowledge on ICT tools through various modules such as FIT and ICT. As we all are going to teach in future, it is must to know both the knowledge and application of the ICT tools which will be useful while teaching the concepts.
If I share what all tools that I have learned from these modules, firstly I learned how to use VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) in which all the announcements and news about the college are given. Learning about VLE was totally new to me, but it’s very easy and convenient to use VLE after taking FIT classes. Secondly I got familiarized with the word “APA” which stands for American Psychological Association and also knew how to evaluate the internet sources. Not only that I learned how to use ms-word and ms excel on how to insert table, how to insert columns and rows, deleting rows and columns, merging cells, splitting cells, repeating header rows and inserting symbols and so on.
We are Bhutanese and our national language is Dzongkha, so it is the responsibility of every citizen to know at least how to type in Dzongkha. Through the modules offered, I also learned the Dzongkha Unicode.  So now I know how to type in Dzongkha slowly. But I will try my best to type to certain speed when I complete from here.

When I was high school student my knowledge on ICT was very narrow. I thought we can only type and save files for future reference. Besides we can play some games and play music. But I realized ICT can do a lot more than these things.  I have learned so much by taking computer classes and still got so much to learn from the module which we are currently undertaking. Few years ago, FIT classes were offered in primary schools as well and I must say that it’s really effective to offer such modules in primary schools to build strong foundation on usage of ICT tools from very young age. So that after reaching universities we can focus on advance computing rather than focusing on basics.
Lastly I would like to thank all the IT tutors for putting effort to impart the knowledge of ICT to us.

Thank you

reflection on ICT as an informative tool

Reflection
ICT as informative tool
According to UNESCO (2004) ICT can be broadly understood as technology that facilitates communication, processing and transmission of communication by electronic means. ICT is essential for improving student learning and better teaching methods. The ICT in education is the mode of enhancing, supporting and in calculating information within a short period of time.
We have learned that ICT is an informative tool. ICT as an informative tool is define as applications which provide vast repositories of information/content to learners’ activity. For example, the computer can provide large amount of information in different forms such as text, graphics, sound, image and video.

We have also discussed some of the sources of information from which we can collect information like television, radio, newspaper books, journal, etc.  We have also looked at some of the advantages of using ICT as an informative tool which will benefit us in our future while selecting the tools. Using of ICT as informative tools helps us to save our time, make our work easy, get appropriate information, develop information search skills, etc.

Under informative tool, Sir asked us to prepare power point presentation on ‘Is Hitler Gay?’ using different source. The main motive of letting us prepare this presentation was to explore and search facts provided about Hitler's sexuality using different search engine and check how authentic are the information provided. Through this work I learned how to get appropriate information from different sources. Being a future teacher, we have to be aware of different informative tools that we can apply while teaching and how to execute in the classroom. If we apply varieties of informative tools we get plenty of ideas, as a result, we can confer our students the clear concept. Suppose we are presenting the idea of ‘matter’, instead of just explaining, we can show them video, text, animation, graphics, and images to explain about the matter.
Below is the link to my presentation on 'Was Hitler a Gay'

Searching information on Hitler's sexuality using different websites:

The informative tool does not provide information directly. Hence, we have to explore information through different sources. The various sources are television, radio, internet, newspaper and books. There are various advantages of informative tool. Through the use of informative tool, we learn to integrate relevant ideas and analyze the information. It also helps in developing information search skills as well enhance critical thinking and learn to evaluate resources on the internet. So, in future i will brief students on how to access accurate and reliable information from the internet with examples.
